Description

The Shetland Islands flag was created in 1969 to mark the 500th anniversary since the islands were given from Norway to Scotland. In 2006, it was accepted as the official flag.

The flag has the same colours as the Scottish, but the cross is the same as in the Nordic flags to mark the historical and cultural ties to the Nordic countries.
